Got roped into going to see Alien vs Predator on opening night... [Friday 13th lol]...
It was really good... I actually got really into it... Granted it was kinda lacking, but I couldn't pin a word to what it was lacking. *chuckles*
Ok, I'm an Alien fan so yeah...
Set in a more modern time than the Alien movies ever were, Wayland Industries (lately Wayland-Yutani), headed by Charles Bishop Wayland, finances a journey to Antartica to investigate a heat signature which has appeared on their satelite.
The movie fucks with anything and everything Alien. First The Company isn't the conspiratorial nut job that it typically is. And then they had to go and make the Aliens look different when bred with a Predator... 'scuze me, but didn't it breed with a dog in Alien 3 and didn't change? Fuck job man.
On a happier note: they used a lot of kewl Giger designs thrown around... I know I've seen some of them before, so if you see it have a look see. And another is that Wayland was played by Lance Henriksen... take note, Lance Henriksen played Bishop in Aliens and Alien 3.
So what does this make the time frame to be like? AvP is obviously set before Alien, but by how many years? This makes little to no sense, but Alien occurs in 2122... AvP supposedly occurs 10 Oct 2004. I must note that Michael Bishop was born in 2127... I find this strange... to use Lance Henriksen to play Charles Bishop Wayland yet the synthetic, Executive Officer L Bishop, is supposed to be based off of a Michael Bishop... Strange coincidence if you ask me. I think the writer screwed up. Considering that it was a different writer than wrote the other 4 Alien movies (Dan O'Bannon wrote 1-4, and Paul Anderson having written AvP).
All I can say is: please sir, I want some more. [IE let's tie this story up neat with a bow and give me a connections between AvP and Alien!]
Have I proven myself to be a freak yet? *winks*
