Future

Do you ever have one of those moments where you can SEE the future, and see it fail? (I'm looking at you, Brig. General John Buford) I'm looking forward to the end of this year where I hope to be graduating and then continuing onto my Phd program, and I'm not seeing myself finishing my thesis on time. I just don't know if I can do it. I haven't ( Read more... )

If you don't get your thesis done in the summer, do you really have to take a *whole* year to finish it? Can't you just take fall quarter? I guess I don't get how Thesis Not Done by End of Summer Quarter = Cannot Graduate Until Spring of 2012.

If it were me, I would probably plow ahead stubbornly like I usually do and do my absolute best to get it done in time; and if that didn't work, just take it in stride. I think if you really do your best, and don't quite make it, there's no shame in failure. Absolutely none.

Also, I'm probably not the best person to complain to about having to stay here an extra year, because if all three of you leave I'll be sitting here in the NY all by my lonesome for my senior year. You can always come live with me. These apartments are a real bargain, and then I can not-move for another year.

If I just took fall quarter, I'd probably have to go to CA or something for the rest of the year because Phd programs only start in the fall.

But if I'm staying here another year, I will definitely come back to you about that rooming with you thing! Provided you're not in Japan!

I presume not being done by summer is a problem because PhD programs always start in the fall and you'd have to wait around until the following fall?

Right.

I'd be without anything to do for about half a year, aka, probably have to go back to my parents house for that time. >

I am sad too that you won't be joining the crowd in getting out of Bellingham, but I think it's important to make the very most of your education. Since your future has such an important emphasis on your academic pursuits, definitely don't rush yourself through your thesis so hard that you feel like you didn't get as much out of it as you could.

Besides, there will still be people up here, and Jess and I will not be that far away. I for one, will want to come see you a lot! We're all at a time in our lives where we don't know whats going on. I think you should try your best, but don't compromise quality for speed. Have an optimistic attitude and try hard, but like Casey said it's not the end of the world if you don't make it at the end of summer.

And don't go back to your parents house no matter what.
