I've been thinking a lot lately about fate. It's an interesting concept, whether or not you believe in it ( Read more... )

i wrote this about two weeks ago.

there will be nothing epic or heroic in our story.
no one will sacrifice their life to save the king.
neither of us will challenge some previously unassailable foe
and succeed.

there will be no heartbreaking suicide,
or passionate murder,
or even, any bad words.

we will neither climb icy mountains
nor leap great chasms;
we will not fend off toothless, peglegged pirates
like laughing buccaneers...
i will not duel the devil
and you will not be bothered by an angry and jealous witch.

(whether or not there will be
a happy ending
is yet to be determined,)
but whatever the case, i'm sure
our story will be so great,
it will secure our place
among the shining heroes in the sky.

Could this be fate? jazzydramaqueen August 14 2005, 20:43:44 UTC
As of late, i find myself looking more frequently to the sky.
Perhaps to see the shining heroes, perhaps for other reasons.

Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps.

(is this the poem you promised me?)

I agree, fate does seem too good to be true. However comforting it may be to imagine a divine hand guiding us through life, or to think that the night’s distant flickers are an intellect that cares for us, it’s too good to be true. To think that the course of your life is wound around the frozen boulders and the galaxy's gaseous giants is folly, fate resides in people. They’re governed by their needs, desires and hopefully self-restraint. I look to the stars and see shimmers of something great, but in the end I know that everything I see is a reflection of my own mind.

Maybe I was wrong, destiny might exist. Being destined for something doesn't make getting there any easier or the ultimate goal any clearer. Having a destiny won't remove obstacles or heal pain, those things are meant to be, as much a part of the ultimate outcome as success or failure. God might have a plan for us, but that doesn't mean that things are going to be easy. I guess the best plan is to take an active role and pretend like the decisions you make actually matter, in the off chance they do.
