Pairing: Joe/Nick
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 2,143
Disclaimer: I don't own these boys
Summary: If no one was gonna buy Joe the dog he wanted for his birthday, then he is going to get one for himself.
The Request: any situation in which Nick would react ridiculously DEADLY SERIOUS and Joe would be all pfffft, irritating Nick with his carelessness, realistic brotherly dialogue
Joe kicks his feet up, his heavy black boots scuffing the edge of mom's coffee table as he rests his feet on the table’s edge.
Nick elbows him and gives him a dirty look. Joe huffs and puts his feet back on the floor, mumbling about Nick needing to loosen up.
"I've already decided, Nick, and nothing you say will change my mind. None of you bought me a dog so I'm buying myself one."
"Joe, owning a dog is a very serious responsibility. You have to train him, walk him, feed him, make sure he gets his vaccines. You can't just go off and buy a dog without considering that."
Joe turns to face him, an affronted look on his face. "Are you kidding me? When the hell did you last take Elvis to the vet? Or buy him food? Carrie does all that. She even came over today on Thanksgiving to walk him while you sat here on your ass."
He has the sense to look guilty, but he still continues to try and convince Joe he shouldn't have a dog. "Be sensible, Joe, we travel so much why would you want to leave your dog with someone else so often. You want to be around to play with him, don't you?"
Joe settles back into the couch crossing his arms and looking smug. "Really, Nicky, you shouldn't use arguments for me not to get a dog that apply to you too. Stop arguing with me, I'm getting the dog."

At dinner, Joe brings up the dog again, asking everyone what breed he should get. Kevin and Danielle of course suggest he get a yorkie, like Riley, but Joe immediately says he wants a big dog.
Frankie tells him if he wants a big dog he should get a Great Dane, but Joe laughs and says that might be a little too big.
Throughout the conversation Nick stays quiet, not wanting to start an argument in the middle of dinner. He can tell though that Joe thinks it's funny that he's annoyed. At one point, he even says looking right at Nick, 'maybe I'll get two dogs so when I'm traveling they'll have each other for company.'
He just rolls his eyes and continues to eat his dinner, eventually the topic of conversation moves on to something else, but he knows Joe hasn't forgotten it.

A week passes and Joe hasn't mentioned a dog. Nick foolishly hopes Joe has gotten distracted by something else. He isn't that lucky though. Joe calls him early on a Friday morning and says, "Do you want to drive out to San Bernadino with me today?"
It's still early and Nick's wondering if he missed part of this conversation. "Why do you want to go out to San Bernadino?"
"Oh, I found a breeder that has a litter of Boxer puppies I want to look at. She's only there 'til three though. So, do you wanna come or what?"
Nick's stomach sinks, realizing Joe hasn't forgotten at all about getting himself a puppy. He just hasn't mentioned it to Nick. He grits his teeth and sighs, he'd rather go and be Joe's voice of reason than let him come home with a puppy. "Sure, let me shower and get dressed, and then I'll head over."
He can hear the smile in Joe's voice, but all he says is 'hurry' and then disconnects the call.

The ride out to San Bernadino takes longer than Nick expects, and by the time they arrive he's frustrated from listening to Joe ramble about how great having a puppy to play with will be. He tumbles out of the car and is grateful for the few moments of silence until Joe is around the front of the car hurrying him to the front door.
The litter of puppies are ridiculously cute and Nick can't help grinning as he plays with the runt of the litter, Rusty. He's smaller than his brothers and sisters, but makes up for it with exuberance. He's trying to climb out of Nick's arms and licks Nick's face when he picks him up. Joe's playing with Daisy, but is watching Nick out of the corner of his eye.
The owner of the puppies likes Joe and offers him his choice of the litter. They aren't old enough yet to be separated from their mother, but she says they'll ready in just a few more weeks.
Nick panics because from the look on Joe's face he's ready to take the whole litter home with him. And honestly, Nick almost lets him when he looks into Rusty's small smushy face, but he pulls Joe aside and gives him a lecture about not jumping into something too quickly and taking time to think before making such a huge purchase.
He talks Joe out of buying one of the puppies right then, but Joe only agrees to go home and think about it over night. He tells the breeder he'll call her tomorrow. The last thing she tells them before they leave is not to wait too long because these puppies won't last long and she won't wait for Joe to make a decision.

The ride back to Joe's house seems much shorter than the ride out, but it's definitely more uncomfortable. Joe's quiet, no longer finding it amusing that Nick's trying to prevent him from buying a dog and obviously mad at him. He only glances at Nick once, when he asked Joe to slow the car down.
Joe doesn't respond, but he backs off from the gas pedal when he sees the odometer pushing eighty.
When they arrive at Joe's house, Joe parks in the driveway. He heads into the house without him. Nick follows and finds Joe in his living room looking rather annoyed. He sits beside Joe and lays a palm on Joe's thigh, kneading his fingers into the muscle.
Joe looks at him with a hard stare, "Oh no, don't even try that with me right now. I'm mad at you."
Nick hates when Joe is mad at him. "I don't want you to be mad at me."
Joe stands up, his hands gesturing wildly. "Why shouldn't I be mad? You think I'm so irresponsible that I shouldn't have a dog. Do you really think that poorly of me? Do you really think I'd get an animal and just ignore it? Not take care of it?"
Standing so he can look Joe in the eyes, he reaches for Joe with a calming gesture. "No, of course not. I know you would never neglect a dog. I just think-you should wait a bit. Maybe now's not a great time for a dog."
"That's crap and you knowit. I don't have any reason to wait. We're home now for a good couple of months, there's nothing stopping me except you. Give me one good reason."
He's frustrated that Joe has backed him to a corner; he opens his mouth and nothing comes out. Joe shakes his head at him and turns to walk away. His hand shoots out and grabs at Joe's elbow. "I got you the stupid dog, alright! It was all you could talk about for your birthday, but we were on tour and no one could get it for you then. So I bought you a dog for Christmas, I was trying to keep it surprise, but you just wouldn't let up about getting a puppy yourself!"
Joe's anger deflates and he's looking at Nick with the biggest stupidest smile on his face. "You bought me a puppy."
He rolls his eyes. "Did I not just say that? I even bought a big red bow to wrap around his neck on Christmas morning, but it's ruined now. We can go get him, if you want. He's been at Carrie's since last week when I picked him up."
Nick just stands there feeling awkward, while Joe stares at him. Then he's moving, grabbing Nick by the shoulders and pulling him close. He kisses Nick, wet and sloppy, laughing when he pulls away.
Eager to kiss Joe again, Nick leans in close, but Joe's still laughing. "I can't believe you've been hiding a dog from me and all this time I thought you thought I shouldn't have one."
Before Nick can answer back though, Joe kisses him again, slower this time, with more intent. He pushes Nick back, walking them to the couch. The backs of Nick's knees hit the couch and he falls back onto the cushions, Joe's weight falling heavily on top of him. He spreads his thighs and Joe adjusts to continue kissing him.
When Joe breaks the kiss his eyes are glassy and his cheeks are pink and flushed. Nick cups his hand behind Joe's neck to drag him in for another kiss, but Joe ducks away and slides to his knees between Nick's legs.
Nick's dick is pressing against the zipper of his jeans and when Joe reaches to undo his jeans, he groans. Joe's newly shorn hair is messy and his mouth is pink and swollen from kissing. Nick can't wait to see Joe with his lips wrapped around his cock.
Lifting his hips, so Joe can tug his jeans and boxers down his thighs, he bites down on his lower lip to stifle a moan. Brushing his fingers through Joe's hair, he grips the back of his neck and pulls him down.
Joe's warm breathe ghosts over the tip of his cock and he shudders. Glancing up through his thick lashes, Joe licks his lips and then wraps his mouth around the head of Nick's cock. The moan Nick had been suppressing tumbles out loud and raw.
Every time Joe does this for him it's like the first time. Nick's insides feel like jelly and it's like every nerve ending in his body is directly connected to his dick.
Joe sucks him deep and hums, sending vibrations through him. He slowly drags his tongue along the bottom side of Nick’s dick, pulling off with a wet pop. Joe ducks lower and sucks and licks at Nick’s balls. Moaning, he spreads his thighs wider, aching to come.
He can feel the smile on Joe’s lips, as he lifts off to take Nick’s dick back into his mouth and he palms Nick’s balls roughly. He’s so slow close now, teetering so close to the edge that he can’t help thrusting up into Joe’s mouth. Joe lets him; and his hips piston up, using Joe’s mouth until he’s spilling hot come down Joe’s throat.
Joe swallows, but Nick’s still coming and when Joe pulls off a weak spurt paints his lip and chin. Nick’s panting; his chest heaving, he reaches out and wipes the come from Joe’s face with his thumb and lifts it to his mouth to lick it clean.
Joe watches with heavy lidded eyes and Nick can see hard bulge in Joe’s pants. He sucks his thumb into his mouth slowly and teasing. He twists the fingers of his other hand into Joe’s shirt and drags him up onto the couch. “Let me take care of you now.”

Nick wakes up early Christmas morning to walk Joe’s puppy. Carrie dropped him off late last night and his crate has been hidden up in Nick’s room. The pup has been surprisingly quiet only yipping when Elvis came over to investigate him.
They are back in Nick’s room and he can hear Frankie waking his parents excited about presents under the tree. Nick wrestles the clumsy Lab down and secures the big red bow to his collar. The red of the bow looks festive against the chocolate brown of his fur and the puppy tries in vain paw it off the back of his neck.
Nick grabs the leash and leads the dog down to the living room. He finds the big box he wrapped in shiny red paper just for this purpose and sits the puppy in the box in front of the tree surrounded by the other present.
Frankie is dragging his parents down the stairs, Kevin and Danielle and Joe following bleary-eyed behind them. The new puppy is excited by all the new people and before Joe can even get fully into the room to see him, the puppy has tumbled out of the box and energetically runs across the room bypassing everyone until he reaches Joe. He pounces; his big puppy paws landing on Joe’s thighs knocking him off balance until stumbles back to sit on the bottom step. The puppy scrambles into Joe’s lap like he knows unconsciously that he is meant for Joe and begins to lick his face. Joe laughs, deep and happy and when he meets Nick’s gaze Nick knows this is the best present he’s ever given.
