Your post today has truly devastated me, and is cause for some self-reflection on my part, too. That though, is another story.
The loss is the forces', not yours. You are a dedicated, caring compassionate guy - or so it seems, given that we've never met I can't be sure but I know I'm on track with that - and there are far too few cops (or gay men for that matter) who fit that description. Your post earlier in the week summed up not just who you are as a cop, but who you are as a person. Don't let narrow-minded assholes ever take away the good soul that you are.
If you truly love law enforcement, don't give it up. There are places that are not as repressive as where I think you are (W MI??), such as the 23rd Pct right in Boystown here in Chicago. And alot of other places, too, I'm sure.
Keep on pushing forward; you'll be just fine. And you will continue to make your mark...as you already have, whether it is in police work or something else.
Good luck, Jason.
