rome if you want to, rome around the world

Super busy weekend, started off by Paseo 1st Friday and "wine night" at Steph's, a possibly injudicious event since Race for the Cure was the next day. But I limited myself to 2 glasses of wine over a few hours and was fine.

Race for the Cure- I was running as part of a 'team' this year... I say that in quotes because be we signed up together online, I only knew 3 of the women on the team and we never met before the race, carpooled in small groups and weren't able to meet after the race. We had a team photo arranged but they changed the time at the last minute. This is the 5th one of these I've been to, and from an event planning perspective, it seemed the most unorganized- generally, not our team. I think the race attendance was WAY up over past years, which could have been the reason, but hey- that's a good thing for fundraising. The unorganization caused some frustration for me and the girl I had carpooled with, who wasn't able to meet up with the team at all and therefore COULD NOT GET HER RACE NUMBER. She ran anyway, which was pretty badass, but still a little frustrating for her. I was glad she did. Problems or no, I wouldn't skip it in the future- it is still a fantastic event. Next year, I'll be a one-woman team again. :)

I ran home and iced my hip while making a pumpkin bread for our 'team' brunch. This may be TMI but I used a thigh-harness as a compress to keep the ice pack in place while running around baking. :) I have been icing it on and off since, and am pleased that it is feeling better. Not totally well... I don't think I will get back into running regularly for another week or so... but I didn't have sharp pains afterwards, just some tightness. Look- I do realize it sounds irresponsible for me to self-treat this, but I have given myself this race as a goalmark: if I have sharp pain or other problems after this, I will go to a dr...

That night, engagement party for two of our friends, baby shower for one of Bonnie's friends, and I think I hit 'the wall' at about 10pm or so. Fun, but geeze. Long day. After we got home, we chilled on the pack porch for a while and Bonnie worked on a couple of guitar songs while we yapped on with some Deep Thoughts. I was pretty drunk at that point. Back Porch philosophy- there is no better kind.

So today we have been taking it easy. We did go to the OKC Museum of Art to see Roman Art from the Louvre in its last weekend in town. This show is only going to 2 other cities in the US before going back to France... (yes, you had to get through ALL that above for the pun in the title to make sense.) We really enjoyed it and learned a bit about ancient Rome. I have to say, the Roman art section was one part of the Louvre I always skipped over during my year in France. I have never been a Roman history buff; it just didn't grab my imagination the way that religious art or the Renaissance did... but it was a great exhibit, with art and artifacts interspersed with contextual history and information, def. a more integrated approach. Which I liked. I also enjoyed playing "spot the Louvre's identification/'property of' mark" on the ancient Roman art. hee hee.

Then we hopped over to World Fest for fabulous fair-trade artisan crafts of the world. i love wooden bowls. and woven bowls. and beaded bowls. They are so adorable, but- so unnecessary to buy. I did spend some time in the children's learning area, trying to steal some 'recycled art' craft ideas for the kids' area at Festival. And I bought some fair-trade coffee which is delicious... and that's about all that happened there.

sorry this is so choppy. I am making lots of typos and it is taking uber-long w/o the L index finger... which is healing remarkably, so yay. But, it turns out my L middle finger is like Sarah Palin- a hastily chosen surrogate, unprepared to assume the duties of the lead finger in a time of crisis. (yes, I have been saving that joke up)

we just had thai food. now I'm trying to plan this 'Contemporary Portraiture' exhibit for Jan. that I JUST got the official ok on... yay! calling artists- first step. I know 4 I want to invite. I need 2-4 more... Curating is fun. later taters.

this is all astoundingly incoherent.
