I just have to say I love my Ob-Gyn, and I am so glad that I do, because I was worried that I would not find one I really loved!
Yesterday was the second time I went to see her and she made me feel so much better about the weight I have gained and ttc. I talked with her about my plans to really try and lose weight over the summer and start TTC in ( Read more... )

That's so fantastic that you have someone you like. I'm trying out a new GYN on Friday and my fingers are crossed.

Excessive weight gain is very controversial during pregnancy. Most medical professionals believe that it is due to binge eating and letting nutrition go out the window. If you honestly ask most pg women who gain FAR above the mean, they'll tell you they ate junk the whole time. Too often weight gain of pgcy gives women an excuse to have non-pgcy weight gain at the same time. Not that it really matters - but if you are pg and eat complete junk then you shouldn't be surprised when you gain 40-50lbs. You know?

I'm excited about you TTC. :) It would be so fun to shop together for baby things some time.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you like your new ob-gyn.

Oh, did you get my email about possible dates for The Drowsey Chaperone?

I did you get your mail! I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to compare my schedules. I'm going to know my June schedule better in another few days and hopefully we can look for tickets and decide on a date! I didn't anticipate going back to Canada so soon and as it turns out I have to go twice in the next 6 weeks - so I'm waiting to see when those trips are.

yeah on liking your doc

sometimes girls that aren't super skinny don't even really gain weight when they are pg.. and they are usually the girls that are careful/eat healthy too

I think I ate better pg than I do now!! you don't want your kid to turn into a dorito or french fry - I did have ice cream.. figured that was healthy for baby too

I know that when I get pregnant I want to make sure I am healthy and continue to eat healthy.

Can't see why a little ice cream wouldn't be good for the baby-does have milk in it!

It definitely makes a huge difference. I love that I feel so comfortable talking with her which I think is very important.

I asked her if she thought that was realistic and safe. She said in her experience that most of the women who ended up putting on a lot of weight were usually women who had been really restrictive with their eating pre-pregnancy and were probably underweight.

I totally agree with this as I think it explains a lot of my weight gain. I definitely did not eat nothing but junk, but I know my body and in order to really be at the weight I want, I need to be very careful about watching what I eat and exercising. When I got pregnant and stopped doing that, the weight just piled on. It wasn't a matter of "eating junk the whole time" like nyclaura says, but it was more of just not watching my diet like I used to.

Also, a lot of it depends on your own personal makeup. My doctor said that some women just gain more weight than others no matter how careful they are and then others eat whatever they want and stay within the 'norm'. There's a lot to be said for your genes.

I think there is a lot to be said for your genes. I am hoping I take after my mother-to a point-when I get pregnany. She couldn't eat anything sweet-not just talking candy-but things like apple and orange juice. She actually put on very little weight so here's hoping I take after her. Unfortunately the first 3 months she also had horrendous morning sickness which I'm hoping I don't get!

We're also planning to TTC sometime around Sept. 2006. It is definitely good to have a plan for being healthy for baby. That was part of my motivation when I took up running.
