So, I'm talking with a friend of mine this past week. We were talking about being attracted to people and things that make people attractive to us. I agree. Most romantic relationships are one of two flavors...

Flavor 1 is "instantly smitten," usually hinges on lust, is a fun, wild ride, and typically doesn't last long once the new wears off. Social Psychologists refer to this as 'romantic love.'

Flavor 2 can best be summed up by, "I knew you first as a friend, and then our friendship evolved into something stronger." It takes longer to achieve this, but once built, it has a much stronger foundation than Flavor 1. Social Psychologists refer to this as "conjugal love" and it's as rare as it is beautiful.

I wish you luck in finding Flavor 2. Once you clamp your lips around that, it's hard to settle for anything less.

I thought I felt that way about my second wife, but as time went by we drifted apart. Be that as it may, our first year together was utter bliss. I miss that.
