Good morning and happy fourth! I really loved this exercise. This would be very beneficial to use with my students, especially those that have a difficult time going deeper and really stretching themselves as writers. I really enjoyed doing it myself. here goes

This is a great exercise that I would love to do with students. Here's what I came up with:
My eyes slowly opened as the next-door neighbor's Boston terrier, Snickers, started her unrelenting, high-pitched barking. It was barely light out yet and I had a difficult time focusing on my watch: 5:30.
I knew my parents weren't up yet, since I couldn't hear any noises from downstairs or smell coffee brewing. I rolled over to go back to sleep, but then I remembered...the picnic!
Once I started thinking about the Taylor Swift concert and planning how I would dress, wear my hair, and position myself near the stage so I would get chosen to perform with her, I couldn't possibly sleep anymore! I jumped up and started dancing wildly on the bed to "Shake It Off!" which I belted out loudly in my head.

There was no sleeping in on Sunday. As soon as the sun began to rise, I could hear Aunt Claudie shuffling around getting her morning medicine. I heard the thump of her cane on the floor and the rattle of bottles before she shuffled out to the living room.. The recliner protested with a groan as Aunt Claudie sat down. With a punch of a button, the television roared to life and I knew it was time to get up. Aunt Claudie liked to have a bowl of cereal while she watched the morning news and nobody else was around to fix it. I rolled out of bed, wincing as my feet touched the cold floor.
I dreaded Sundays. It was just me and Aunt Claudie all day long. Well, I guess it really was me, Aunt Claudie, and Steve Harvey because Aunt Claudie pretty much watched Family Feud all day long. Didn’t matter that she’d seen the episodes before, the t.v. stayed on the Game Show Network. Didn’t matter that Aunt Claudie usually fell asleep halfway through a game---you didn’t dare touch that remote control..
