I'm so excited to try TeachersWrite for the first time! Thanks for these prompts. I'm revising a novel write now, and it's extremely helpful to go back and try to articulate these ideas more fully.
You're so welcome!!! I think these work really well for revision. The questions can help you think about where you might insert a detail here or there, or something in the dialogue, to help give a stronger sense of the world/rules/power structure. :)
Good Morning, I'm excited about Teachers Write this summer. Thank you to you and all the authors for creating a community where we can think, learn, and WRITE! This is my third summer following and hopefully sharing more. I will definitely bookmark this for use with my students. I can see how important understanding a character's world is in writing and also hope the hard work of understanding their characters' world will grow their empathy for the worlds of those around them as well.
I don't have a WIP at the moment, but I wanted to share my response to your Facebook prompt:
This summer, I want my words to strengthen my voice.
Somebody commented with a question about nonfiction and place but the comment was deleted. I wanted to stress that YES, nonfiction and especially memoir rely on tremendous world building. :)

She lives with her divorced mom and younger brother. She is part of the backpack program that gives her food to eat for the weekend. She behaves outrageously so people laugh at her because of what she does not because of who she is.

I'm wanting to hear more as well! When I stand at my morning duty post at school, I watch the social worker hang the bags of food on each homeroom teacher's door to be placed in the backpacks of those who are signed up for the program. I often wonder how those kids feel.

Now try focusing on how she might see her world:
How is home life different from school life? Who has the power in each setting?
