I'm opinionated. No surprise, right? So earlier today I was saying, "There's this side, but there's this other side, so I'm not sure which I think

Late, but I think what may have complicated the argument is that both of you respect each other as people, have met in person, and have had deep discussions about how you see the world and your backgrounds. Many things may have changed for each of you since the last time you met in person, but it's possible that you were both trying to speak and argue with the people in your heads you knew from long ago, without knowing or comprehending the amount of living each of you had done since then and how your attitudes had changed.
Here's a fun question: Do you think the JB from oh-so-long-ago would have held the same opinion without the JB of today's several years of reinforced opinion since then? :)
*nods* That makes sense. *laughs* And maybe some, "I know this person! How could she possibly disagree?!" on both sides. ;-D
Interesting question! I think the JB of oh-so-long-ago would have held the exact opposite opinion that I now hold. Now, especially working with animals for so many years, I've seen lots of animals in unnatural situation be very happy, and animals in natural situations be miserable. And I've seen what they're proposing go so, so very wrong. JB of yesteryear would have assumed that natural = happy, and intelligent = hates cages. Today... not so much. (Having done research, I do think things need to change. I still don't think banning and releasing all the captive ones is necessarily the way to do it.) (Notice how carefully I'm talking in code, because I don't want to rehash it on my LJ with someone who pipes in from the audience... ;-D)
That WAS an interesting question. It definitely made me stop and think and figure out what has changed!
It is! I think about hosting another con at some point, just to see how everyone has changed (I guess that would be a SubCon Reunion!), but then I realize we all have lives and it's unlikely people can get away or afford to come up!
