That was a delight to read, beautifully described.
I particularly loved the dream about the London peasoupers. And the facts that he dreams of a normal life, and of death, are heartbreaking insights into Jack, and his curse.
Thank you.

No, thank you! I didn't start off with the intention of it turning so poignant, but it just does when I start thinking about Jack so much.

I'm so glad you enjoyed; thanks for commenting.

Antelope also found it to be quite sad, but I have to say I didn't set out to make it that way. I see where it reads like that, but I definitely see it as being more contemplative, more about the possibility of a full life.

So more than just a tad hopeful.

I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

This was beautiful! I found the Lightman book a touch much, but as a short piece like this, it's gorgeous. You captured the tone perfectly, and made it work perfectly with Jack's story.

My favourite part was Jack deciding what love was. Really unique and lovely.

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story.

It's funny, I read the book in college and haven't picked it up for 14 years. In the store yesterday, though, I saw a copy on display and kind of remembered it.

Obviously, though, it really stayed with me; although I haven't read it since it first came out, I'm pretty sure I found the tone easily.

I really love that part about love, too. I can't decide if I like blueberries and whales the most, or Jack's hokey pokey.

One and four are my favorites, and I *love* Jack's crazy Elaine-like dance. If it's about him being different and wrong, it's also about him embracing that utterly.

Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed, and thanks for such a thoughtful comment.

Wow. So imaginative and full of sensual description. Part 1 is my favorite, I think - you really show how the scene is effortlessly familiar and normal to Jack and yet you do it without losing the sense of alienness for the reader. I also really loved part 4, with Jack taking joy in being different, in the physical. Lovely.
