Okay, so I've added a few more this go-around for my television discussion. It's the way I am.
HIMYM - 4x14 - The Possimipible
First let's say this. NPH is the personification of awesome. I have watched every episode of Doogie Howser and associate it with my childhood. Seeing as I have neither talked about the show or NPH before I figured I would start off with that.
So, I'm cutting into this three seasons in. HIMYM = hilarious. And comedy, in the dark and dreary days of Winter, is an absolute necessity. Thankyouverymuch. So HIMYM is a staple of my "things-to-watch-when-it's-too-cold-to-function" life. The addition of Jason Segel (hello Freaks and Geeks) and Alyson Hannigan (I watched Buffy and won't deny it) with the addition of Neil Patrick Harris only adds to the shows aura of awesome. So now that I've used the word awesome far too many times let's actually talk about this episode.
First, the Canada jokes make me laugh. Mainly because they are many of the same things I've heard about Wisconsin. And I find it funny. Also, it's so absolutely ridiculous that it's just too dumb to not laugh at. So, the basis of this episode was Robin being deported back to Canada because she is presently unemployed. The b-story is that the rest of the gang has dumb stuff on their resumes from back-in-the-day. Frankly, looking at their resumes (and the fact that they went to Wesleyan) should make me want to hate them but I can't. Besides, where Robin went is unknown and I'm completely off-track at this point.
Okay, so Barney and Robin is something that a lot of people want. I'm mixed. I must say that seeing Barney so vulnerable and endearing is fantastic. However, I stand by the fact that Barney is a womanizer and I kinda like that. He's been a womanizer for a long time, let's just keep it that way. However, seeing him get down on one knee, or the way he hugged her and my little cynical heart just about died. I don't ship people, I don't write fan fiction, I don't do anything related to fandom to anyone. I just talk about shows I love. I don't really care to change them in any even if I find some plot lines to be lame. But at that moment, I was a Barney/Robin shipper. I'm glad I could finally admit it. I am still mixed.
Clever play of Alyson's pregnancy into the show. I'm more excited for the gargantuan bowl of chips they keep talking about. But I'll accept this. Additionally, I did enjoy Barney's video-resume...so typical Barney. And if I were Ted I would keep the radio thing on my resume. Just because I am that lame.
Lost - 5x04 - The Little Prince
True facts: saw this title immediately thought of Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. If you haven't read it, make it happen...it's available in English I promise. I may just read it again. That was before I saw the episode, by the way.
Okay, so LOST continues to confuse but I felt that this particular episode really didn't divulge much new information. And, I can so relate this to the Le Petit Prince like it's nobody's business. But first things first, so we've got time travel. As I've said earlier I really didn't need additional what the fuckery but I'll take what I can get and I'm liking the season so far so I'm down with it. I do have a question about the time travel, is there a pattern to it? There seems to be patters or reasons for everything in the show so is there a reason that they are flashing forward and backward to specific days? Just throwing that out there for you to chew on.
So Ben is the one who is "suing" Kate. Don't you think talking to her may have been better Ben? Probably could have saved some money in the deal too. I mean, I realize that you aren't anyone's favorite person and she could have very well shot you or at least beat you or something but don't you think that talking to her may have been a viable option? No. No. Okay. Also, Ben is so incessant upon everyone going back to the island. Why isn't Sun's baby a part of that formula? I have far too many questions than answers at this point.
Did I hear French in this episode??!! Why yes I did. And after it clicked that they were speaking French I actually understood them too. I was quite proud, not going to lie. Anyway, throw-back to Asteroid B612 (aka the Prince's home "planet") when the container said besixdouze, which translates to exactly that. I have more just wait. Anyway, they did say (I'm paraphrasing from memory) something along the lines of "we shouldn't have followed those numbers" and then it was really just them bickering.
Remind me if I'm fighting a zombie apocalypse (or really just any battle) to invite Sayid. He is one bad ass motherfucker. I remember having long discussions about Sayid when I first started watching this show. I'm happy to see his bamf-dom hasn't dissipated. Also, much thanks to Sawyer for bringing the laughter for "I take that back". Maybe you had to be there.
Okay, so opinions and theories besides my two aforementioned questions. I think that Miles was on the island before. The nosebleeds are from exposure to the island, right? So I think Miles was there before. Rousseau! Crazy French Bitch to the rescue. So, Jin, are you concerned about why you're seeing a young Rousseau? Do you have any idea what's going on? What is up, I haven't seen you in a while! (I have the strangest urge to say "say hi to your mother for me" now. Wow.)
So essentially this episode of LOST taught me that Miles was on the island before, Jin is not dead, we're re-hatching old characters so I'm praying for a Charlie revival, and the island crew seems to be unaware the the Oceanic Six have been gone three years.
Additional connections to Le Petit Prince include: the little prince realizing that he has to go back to his "home" to make things right (they must go back to the island according to Ben), and the fact that the prince is always alone or in isolation with his own responsibilities, mostly to his rose, that he must return to (responsibilities to the people back on the island)? I might be grasping at straws. Truthfully, I don't think Aaron is the prince, either. But I could be wrong.
I need to move on to a less confusing show.
Supernatural - 4x14 - Sex and Violence
I've never spoken about this show before either so I'll preface this a bit. I've also watched this show since the beginning, and stuck around even through the absolutely horrible episodes ("Bugs" would be the major culprit there) but whatever. He we are, four seasons in.
Dean and strippers? Really, show. We could get more obvious? Additionally, IMDB you suck. That was True Blood's Hoyt (real name: Jim Parrack) that was the Siren not whatever actor you said that was. I know, because I wanted to verify that it was Hoyt and then realized that the actor you have listed is not the actor that played the Siren. So, let's work on that.
Anyway, back to show. The boys are hiding things from one another and every time that happens emo-angst ensues. So the minute I saw that happen I pegged the ending of the show. Really. It was that predictable. Granted, I was unaware of who the Siren was but that was besides the point. End of show = boys fighting. I called it.
Sam getting his freak on with the doctor. More and more sex in these shows at the seasons go on. Some may say that it should have been precursory to an episode entitled "Sex and Violence" but that's neither here nor there. I liked the doctor's skirt. These are the things I notice.
I also want to add, that the addition of Bobby in the episode was glorious. The several phones for the different organizations that the guys may portray. Classic. Also, I'd like say that when I saw "Kim Manners" name flash on the screen in the beginning of the episode my heart sank a little.
Overall, typical episode. Could have had more gore. Could have had a stronger story-line. But these things are generally pretty common. Also could have had more Castiel but that's just me.
Bones - 4x13 - The Hero in the Hold
Most of these shows I haven't spoken about at length before. So, again, I'll preface this with some jargon from me. I've watched this show since it first aired as well. David Boreanaz was in Buffy, Emily Deschanel is Zooey's older sister and this season (and some of last season) features John Francis Daley from Freaks and Geeks. Awesome.
So, Booth (Boreanaz) is trapped in a yellow submarine and greeted from a former colleague (in the form of a Marine who died under his watch) who, we find out, is who Booth's son is named after. The person that put Booth on this naval ship is the Gravedigger who, seasons before, trapped Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Deschanel) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) in a car and buried it underground. We also get to see Booth's brother Jared (Brendan Fehr) not be a d-bag. Which is saying something.
So, the overall episode is pure Bones joy. Never mind the fact you get the disingenuous clothes that Bones is in when she's gallivanting all over the greater DC area. Booth's struggle inside the navel ship (for reference, the yellow submarine was inside of a naval ship) was surprisingly heartfelt. Maybe my recent love for all-things-military had something to do with it I don't know, but I really liked the story. The flash-backs to the scene where this soldier died got a little old, but I know the reason they did it. Also, I kinda pegged the Gravedigger early. And I think they left unresolved issues of Jared, and what actually happened to the Gravedigger. But other than that, it was a good episode.
Gosh, that took longer than anticipated. And one of these days I have to catch up on this season of Psych. I've missed a bunch. :-/
