I've noticed a trend amongst people lately, half the time LJ updates are specifically targeted towards an audience of one person, however it is posted publically. Why not just email it? Or call? I really dont get the exhibitionism that takes place

It's because people are inherently attention whores, and secretly want everyone to know everything about them and everything that's going on in their lives, even if it doesn't pertain to them.

However if you tell them this they will vehemently deny it.

It's the nature of everyone who has an LJ, we're all exhibitionists to a certain degree. You have to be.

Obviously, I'm the greatest ever.

However, I agree. I am a giant narcissist. And every single person is interested in; nay, fascinated by my journal anyway, despite what the topic of any post may be.
