I will soon change my major to either Chemistry or Biology. Among my considerations is my possible career choices. This is the list I have come up with.
  • Education (High School):
    • Chemistry
    • Biochemistry
    • Computer Science
  • Research (Private industry or government):
    • "Academic" Problems (e.g.. - protein folding)
    • Drug research
  • Politics:
    • Lobbyist:
      • Biological and/or Chemical issues (not on the side of the corporations)
      • Education issues
      • General Scientific issues
    • Science Advisor
    • Politician (emphasis on education, getting on scientific committees and such)
  • Law:
    • Patent

I am leaning towards high school teacher or research scientist right now, with an eye on political office as a venue for influencing legislation and policy on educational and/or scientific issues. (For the latter to occur, I have to see first hand that conditions are poor and that no one is going to correct the situation anytime soon. This does not convey much information, as these conditions will likely be met very quickly; I am a cynic, after all.)
