2.5 years should be pretty new. You probably just need to reformat the computer, as the windows registry tends to get crusty after a while.

But if you want shiny for cheap, I could just put ubuntu on it. Heh.

Ubuntu is a popular linux distro. It's pretty user friendly, and it does have a bunch of useless but amusing shiny add ons. (Think of such things like twirling around your multiple workspaces on a cube/cylinder, window transparency, a mac osx like doc, water ripples etc...)
