Can't decide! I don't know how you handle all these millions of little choices without getting overwhelmed.

I do get overwhelmed! That's when I bring it to LJ and make my friends Becky, David, and Malayia weigh in. :D

I think I'm down to #1 or #3.

But now I'm worrying about the trash being smelly and making everything else smelly - like, the whole penninsula could be smelly? And people might be eating on the other side of it? AAAAH! I don't know.

ditto!! I just commented to her the other day that I do not think I could ever build a custom home. The end product sounds amazing but all the decisions would kill me. beyond ded.

I voted #3 because

1. I think it would be really useful to have one near the sink, and
2. In terms of removing the trash/bags I like the idea of it being on the very end.

2. Splitting trash and recycling (option 3, as I understand it) would end up being obnoxious. Clean up-wise, if you're scraping something into the sink and then have a sopping napkin or bones or something, you won't want to walk to the end of the counter. You'll want to stand there, pop open the trash, and deposit the wet or slimy stuff, and not carry it across the kitchen (as in option 1). When you're ready to take OUT the trash, what difference is 6 feet going to make? When you're holding gross wet stuff, 6 feet makes a big difference.

I would LOVE if my trash was between the range and sink since those places are where it is convenient more than from the table. Dishes from the table have to make it to the sink or dishwasher anyway. I have recently embraced using a “slop bucket” for things that will go to compost and things that will go to garbage. Our garbage is at the end, not in a cabinet, and with a lid because of babies and pets. Totally inconvenient. And I'm not sure I'd like to split the recycling, I'd like those together - probably probably forgetting which was which and ticking myself up for always opening the wrong one. :)

I say put the trash somewhere between the sink and dishwasher. So either option 2 or 3, right?
