Most of the time you have to be the one to make the approaches. At work I tend to be pretty outgoing, talkative, and interested in other people's obnoxious crap, even if I don't really care. Its a persona I build while I determine who I think I'd get along with best.

It leaves a general good impression, so even if I end up disliking someone, they never usually catch on.

However, if that's not you, its not you. Always remember that first impressions at work are usually all people remember.
