You probably won't see it on any news reports (Though who knows? The media may surprise me yet), but a whole bunch of people in the crowd started singing a disrespectful rendition of "Hey hey hey, Goodbye" as President Bush's helicopter was leaving.
I was so gratified and elated to see on the news (at least here in MD) that the people they put on camera were articulate and did not speak in ebonics. Was this not the case where you are?
Well, we had a couple of people speaking Ebonics on the news here, but I didn't even really mind that.
It was the fact that a mass of the crowd decided it would be appropriate to start singing "Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, Goodbye" when the military band started playing "Hail to the Chief" as Bush was heading to his helicopter to leave.
I don't think any of the cameras caught it, but my uncle and cousin were there, and from what I heard, it was pretty much utterly devoid of class. A couple of newspapers reported the same thing, so I'm pretty much washing my hands of the whole affair and attributing it to the America that I've pretty much come to cringe when I'm associated with it.
