The Patch is where a lot of the younger folks in the community live. One of their main focus is sustainibility. They're really into things like gardening, canning, composted kitchen waste, composting toilets, biking...and things like that.

The Recyclery is a bike co-op that the patch runs where they rehab bike for local kids and also to sell for fund raisers. most of it was in good working order besides this shot.

We crashed at Mike's for a night. He's pretty much the nicest guy that you could ever meet.
In New York I stayed with my friends Derek and Neil, and made some new friends too. They live in a vaccant warehouse with no heat. I talked about it in an earlier myspace blog if you wanna read about it.

Every Community ought ot have a library, right? even if its in a freezing cold, vaccant warehouse.
Neil with a bagel...we ate about 6 per day on average...no joke! Its like the only good dumpster around!
I was pleasantly suprised to see my favorite MPLS street artist up in NYC. Gotta love the colors!
We went to the Catskill Mountains to visit one of the Bruderhof Communities. Theyre an anabaptist community that traces its roots back to germany in the 20's. Theyre some of the most incredible people, always full of suprises!

So we got in the van with these kids to take us to the train station to get back to the city. We had the biggest suprise of the trip when they played their music cassete that they wanted to listen to. They put in the tape and out of the stereo came Tupac! and they rapped every single word. what the heck!

All of the hot water that the 300 person community uses is heated through these solar energy tubes.
Hydroponic greenhouse used to grow lettuce...these folks aint quite like the amish in every area of life!

Next stop Washington DC, where we hung out with Nathans friend from Sojouners. We also walked around the capitol and went to the smithsonian and stuff.

Apparently we missed a huge peace march by one week. Some of our friends were there. I thought this was kinda neat.
