"Won't Somebody PLEASE Think of the Children!"

Feb 10, 2010 10:34

Listening in on a conference call and I'm munching away on my little container of nuts.

I noticed on the label the following warning: "Packed in a facility that handles peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, wheat and egg products."

I'm pleased to learn that my nut provider packed these in a facility that handles nuts. Litigious much?

Our daycare center has a sign on the front door that reads (approximately) like this: "WARNING! ATTENTION PARENTS! ABSOLUTELY NO NUT PRODUCTS may be brought in to this facility! We have children who are lethally allergic to nuts!"

My thought every time I see this: If your child is deathly allergic to nuts, and nearly every food product I've bought in a grocery store has that warning label and therefore might have had nut product residue in/on it, you probably should not put your child in a large daycare facility with hundreds of children whose food consumption (and dust on clothes, pieces stuck in their ears, or brought to school for show and tell unbeknownst to his/her parents, etc.) you cannot control.

But that's just me.

Even my prenatal vitamin box says: "Do not take if you're allergic to peanuts or peanut related products."

It must have to do with the material that makes up the capsule. Still - boggles my mind.
