Your Key to Vanity Sizing

And why I am ready to punch the CEO of Eddie Bauer in the face.

Here's a comparison of TWO pairs of Eddie Bauer size 6. The pair on top fit me like a glove. The pair on the bottom, not so much. Note the mismatch in waist measurements. The pair that fits was bought approximately two years ago:

You know, I just got several shirts from JJills, all medium petite.

They are VERY generously sized...and even tho I know I've lost weight off and on over the years, I'm fairly certain my shoulders are still the same distance apart. My brane may splode if I start to fit small sizes...

I wonder how much of the motivation for vanity sizing isn't that Americans are (supposedly) getting bigger and bigger, and the sizes are all shifting upward to account for it. I can't think of anything else that would explain why this is happening. I mean, it's easy to say that they are sizing things smaller so that people complimented by being a size 8 or something, but ... argh.

The clincher for me is that I've been 130 +/-5 lbs for my entire adult life. I literally am built the exact way I was in high school -- and yet my clothing sizes have been creeping steadily downward monotonically, a one-way slide.

And this is why I've always wished we used the european system of measurement around the waist...I'd even settle for inches over centimeters, just SOMETHING that is not fixed! (though I must admit I wonder how low rise, etc are handled, since those would be wider around not falling on the narrowest part of the waist...but whatevs...just something stable...measurable...

God, I wish you could take my measurements. I'll bet you a steak dinner that I'm an 11/12.

Thank you.

25" waist -- size 10. Probably can wear an 11/12 fairly easily after a full meal. THANK YOU.

*feels vindicated*

You know though, I also never knew that the sizing wasn't linear. From 4-10 is three inches in waist, but from 16-18 is two inches. That was something I hadn't considered.
