For the category icons- improvements for 2014- I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and (attempt to) produce different styles into my iconing repertoire. With that in mind I followed some tutorials, please note I didn’t follow them religiously for one reason or another, mainly because I didn’t always have the same programs/ functions and I think results will be different depending on the original image anyway. Plus I didn’t want to create clones of other people’s icons (that is also why I didn’t search for similar starting images) and I don’t really think that is the purpose of the tutorials anyway but they did serve as a jumping board! And I learnt a few new tricks along the way.

I have to reiterate that I didn’t follow the tutorials exactly so any ‘failings’ in the category icons are down to me and not to the very generous icon-makers who produced the tutorials.
