With everything behind them -- at least for the time being -- Joe had finally packed up his shit, looked at Dale, ordered him to pack up his shit and told Logan that they were taking off for a couple of days. "I think that as long as we avoid the dinosaurs, we can go anywhere you like," said Dale. He wasn't by nature a clingy person, but he did stay close by Joe's side, taking full advantage of this time alone together without responsibilities dogging him. "If you think we should go north, we go north."

"Then we're going north," Joe answered with a grin over in Dale's direction. It was nice to be able to do this; to shrug everything off and just head off together, giving the metaphorical finger to the responsibilities they might have had. "Figure we'll walk a couple of hours and then camp out before it gets too dark."

"We can probably make the coast before dark without a problem," said Dale, but then that was at his pace, not Joe's. And that was assuming that they had no distractions, which he was hoping they very much would. Repeatedly. "But I expect that's not our destination."

"Nah," Joe answered and for a long moment, that was it. The right words to describe what he wanted to do hadn't quite come and it took him some time to find them. As they walked in silence, Joe considered them and then finally said, "Kinda just wanna disappear with you for a couple of days."

The coast, even that far out, might mean people. And right now, he was fucking sick of people.
