"You just caught me," said Dale, poking his head out the door. "I was about to go soak my feet in the stream for a little while to cool off. I haven't lost track of time, have I?" Even without a timepiece, he was usually fairly precise about his appointments.
"Nah, I'm just early," Joe answered, coming up the steps and lifting his hand to pull Dale in for a kiss by the back of his neck. It wasn't that he needed the reassurance, so much, but that he wanted to make it clear to Dale that nothing was changing, even before he said anything.
"By all means," said Dale, "you can always talk to me about anything. Particularly if you're going to use that method of persuasion. What's on your mind, Joe?"

There wasn't a hell of a lot else he could say and he didn't want to drag it out like someone was fucking dying or something.
"I found him sitting in the rec room a couple hours ago. He's... Christ, Dale, he's a fucking kid. He's Logan's age."
