Reed Switch

I really need to get my reed switch replaced on my PowerBook as it will randomly sleep thinking the lid has closed. It had gone away for a couple of month, but now it's back this morning of course as I'm trying to get some résumés sent out. I'd found mention of a way to override the switch when it was happening before and now I can't find it.

How big of a deal was it? Is it something they can just do in an hour or is a major project? From what I've read online everyone it's seems to be a cheap part, but labor intensive, but that was more stuff of people trying ot fix it itself.
I've been putting it off because this is really my only pratical computer and I don't want to be without it for days when I have stuff to do and also since it's more of an annoyance than a critical problem.
