Let's Talk About Glee (2.2)

So, the Britney/Brittany episode of GLEE aired tonight. I'll post my thoughts/review below the cut to avoid any spoilers for those who haven't seen it.

So, we have the infamous before it's time Britney Spears episode of GLEE. And it was all focused on Brittany S. Pierce. Yes, y'all, she has a last name finally. I was just as shocked as you all were. Turns out, our favorite female approximation of Ralph Wiggum wasn't that big of a fan of her namesake until a hot dentist got her high the power of good dental hygiene.

There was something like 12 Britney jokes before the title card for the episode hit. I'm not even kidding. I haven't laughed so hard at an episode of this show since, well, last week I guess, but you get the idea.

Musically, this isn't necessarily one of their best outings. It certainly doesn't hit the level that the Madonna tribute hit, but considering the source material that's not hard to understand. Heather knocked the songs she did out of the park, though, so big props to them on that. The conceit of most of the songs being due to getting put under in the dentist chair was corny, but it made the musical numbers work a lot better. The only song that pulled me out was Artie's number. Simply because the last time he had a dream sequence he got out of the wheelchair. I suppose this shows that he's passed on that particular fantasy for now, which for him is good, but it was jarring.

Heather Morris blew me away in this episode. I mean seriously. She's the best female dancer on the show, she's a hillarious natural with her line delivery, and she can keep up in the vocals. They lucked out big time getting her on this show. I never ever though that a full Brittany episode would work, because I thought the character didn't have enough depth, but they went and proved me wrong this week. She actually had some moments where she seemed like a relatively smart girl, if a little flaky. But, in true Brittany form, she had her share of one liners for an entire season that just blew everything else away.

Oh, and I vote for way more Santana/Brittany duets, please. Cuz, seriously, even as a gay man I was all YEAH BABY to that.

I liked Doctor Karl. I mean, he's John Stamos for starters. He's dating Emma and helping her with her crazy. And he got double teamed by Santana and Brittany. What's not to love?

Sue and Becky are my new Cheerio OTP, just so we're all clear.

Jew-Fro is the creepiest kid ever. He should never ever change, because we love him that way.

The Finn/Rachel storyline was so sweet and such a nice counterpart to the Will/Teri story from last season (and the bits in this episode for those two). They have a lot of the same issues, but the difference is these two have learned much faster how to work through them. And Bieste is totally eclipsing Kurt's dad as my favoirte character EVER on this show.

Oh, hey, speaking of Burt. NO FUCKING FAIR DOING THAT TO ME IN THE PREVIEW FOR NEXT WEEK!! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?????
