Friends or not, you should always do what's best for you. We'll always be here for ya if you need us, but considering that I'm personally doing the same thing (Not really an art college, but still =P), I completely understand and wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, and massive pain from pirate-ninjas if you don't keep in touch ^.^
