Still jobless, continuing...

Okay, job interview skills guy today tells me I need to spend up to 70% networking.

Problem is, I don't really know how to do this for professional reasons. How does I find a job thru setting up a social network, in terms of finding people who know people, etc.

1. do you have any former coworkers you could contact?
2. can you find a p/t retail or coffeeshop job? you'd be surprised at the people who come in there and who or what they know, and what business contacts they pass along. also, this makes it easier to talk to randos and make acquaintances.
3. do you have a twitter? are you adding companies to your twitter? apparently this is a good source for jobs? (the career services lady told me and i kind of rolled my eyes, but whatever.)
4. good luck!

oh yeah, that. i guess to find a media job in NYC I need to spend about 70% of my life schmoozing at cocktail parties. Unfortunately I hate this activity.

You can try going to events like:
It may be more new media and wanna-be entrepreneurs than what you are looking for, but you can make plenty of contacts.

Have business cards made up for such occasions, as the business card trading is fast and furious. For BarCamp, consider being an expert on something and giving a presentation, or being the moderator of a panel/roundtable.
