Deux Coup

May 24, 2005 14:26

We had a coup today on CL, a complete work stoppage. The workers have risen and declared that they shall not allow another C-stand to stand nor another frame to roll nor note to be recorded until they have a union deal. I suggested bringing in some Pinkertons and breaking some kneecaps but was told that that's not how things are handled these days ( Read more... )

I enjoyed your post. You should write more entries where you stretch out like this. It makes me less self-conscious about my own nerdy ramblings.

I am intrigued by your musings about the new Exorcist movie. I read about all that reshooting and stuff back when the other version first came out. I'd like to check it out, but I don't believe that it's playing around here. The (original) original was pretty great.

It's cool that this film "deals more with character development." That's an element that is somewhat lacking in a lot of horror movies.

Speaking of Saw... I saw Saw for the first time a little while ago. What a steaming pile of dogshit. It's a shame too, because the premise was pretty cool. It could have had potential. Is there a worse actor on earth than Cary Elwes? MY GOD he sucked in that. Why the fuck was he weaving in and out of a British accent? He belongs on a soap opera--leave the feature film to the grown-ups.

It's not a great movie by any means, it' really quite average and just down right different compared to the all the other horror stuff being put out. I still contend it's more of a curiosity then anything.

As far as Saw is concerned I thought it had great potential. The beginning was cool and it's a great concept. I was all hoping it was gonna be like a populist horror rendition of an Albee or Beckett play filled with existential absurdities and nagging philosophical questions. It had that feeling in the beginning, but my hopes dissipated way into the ether early on as it progressed. It was absurd alright, absurd plot points abound

It's crazy that you say that there seems like there might be an absurdist quality in the beginning. I thought the same exact thing.

Have you ever read/seen Pinter's The Dumb Waiter. The whole interaction with the two in bathroom echoes that play... big-time. The parallels are too numerous to be coincidence, it simply must have been intentional.

...but of course, it goes nowhere. The filmmaker ends up totally dropping the ball.
