Hiromitsu Kitayama.
A boy. 18 years old..
Ever since he entered private school, he has always been given the privilege to live in a dorm. His partner changes every year, as a senior will always be assigned to a junior. This year, he will be rooming with a freshman as he is a final year student. Last year, his companion was a party animal and he usually came home late and drunk. He didn’t mind it except for his puke everywhere which needed to be cleaned up. He hopes that his partner this year is not like that again.
"Sato Shori.... nice name, " he rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Kitayama is dragging his belongings to his room when he realizes that the light is already turned on. So his new partner must already be inside.
"Good afternoon.... Sato-kun?"
He sees someone put a pile of shirts in a drawer. Slim figure, dark hair - that’s his first impression when he sees his partner for the year. The boy turns around to see Kitayama standing at the door.
"Are you Kitayama Hiromitsu-senpai?"
"Y...yes." Somehow, Kitayama feels nervous. Even though it's just his kouhai, he feels somewhat differently towards the boy.
"Nice to meet you, I hope we can get along for the year."
"Sure."
Kitayama drags his luggage inside the room and closes the door. He opens his bag and starts unpacking.
"Where do you want to go after graduation?" His new roommate asks.
Kitayama thinks for a while, "Perhaps, M university and taking accounting as a major. That's what my dad proposes me to do."
He shrugs his shoulders. He has never really thought about that as he has always let his parents decide what he should do with his life.
"If it's not your parents’ choice, where you will go? And what you will take?"
The question struck him. He never thought about that and never had anyone asked him that. What does he really need? What does he really want?
"I..."
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!
The bell rings loudly through the corridors. That means that all students need to assemble at the school hall for the New Year speech.
"Crap... we need to get there as soon as possible!" Kitayama cut the conversation short and runs to the main hall. The students who are late will have to clean the hall as a punishment on top of being given a detention. As a senior, the length of his detention will also be longer and he really does not want that.
In the evening, Kitayama continues the earlier conversation with his roommate. . He can see the boy is diligent and has a strong passion for chemistry and is a good boy. Shori is very different from him who is usually slacking off, hanging out with friends and skipping school on top of being a couch potato. But that doesn't mean he can't get along with Shori. To be honest, he enjoys talking to Shori as he has great viewpoints. In a matter of days, they are already quite close to each other. Kitayama is glad that he has Shori as his partner.
One sunny day, Kitayama brings his girlfriend to his dorm although it’s forbidden to do. Shori who has been reading a book in the room is surprised when he sees the couple.
"Isn’t it forbidden, senpai?"
"Ssh... don't be so strict. Bring your girlfriend here too. Maybe we can double date."
Shori shakes his head as he sees Kitayama brings the girl to his room. "It's not like I want to have a girlfriend though. If only you would remember me."
30 minutes later, there is a loud bang at the door." Shori takes a peek through his window and sees a security officer standing in front of his door. What’s he doing there?
Shori opens the door, "May I help you, Sir?"
"I received a complaint about a boy bringing a girl into this room. May I check?"
"No need, Sir. I am alone in this room. My senpai is not back yet.”
Kitayama, who hears the conversation from his room, frowns. He will be dead if they find out. He can be kicked out of the school immediately. However, it seems that the talk is going smoothly between Shori and the officer and the security guard leaves without checking the dorm.
After Kitayama makes sure that the security is gone, he dares himself to go outside.
"He's gone. You’re safe for now. Be careful next time. Not everyone likes to let others have fun." Shori smirks to Kitayama and he finds the smile quite familiar.
"I owe you. What can I do for you? Since I'm bad with school so don't ask me for anything about that."
"Nothing. Just be careful. I don't know what reason I can give if they find out again," Shori smiles,
“And remember me...”
"Ah, don't be like that. Hey, you’re single right? I will introduce you to my girlfriend’s roommate."
Before Shori can say anything, Kitayama is already back inside the room, leaving the younger boy dumbfounded.
By the next Saturday night, Shori has been forcefully set up for a date just like Kitayama has promised. He doesn't know what to do. He gets along with the date and the girl is not so bad after all. She is nice so he doesn't want to disappoint her. They watch a movie, eat lunch and play billiards together. It has been a nice day for both of them.
At night, Shori takes the girl to her dorm. When he turns his back, he can feel the girl tug at his sleeve.
"Yes?"
"Do...you want to be my boyfriend? I know this is too soon but we are good for each other…So?"
"I.....I'm sorry but I can't." Shori bows his head to the girl.
"Eeh? Why?"
"I have someone I like."
He bows once again, leaving the girl confused.
Once he enter his dorm, he is welcomed by his senpai playing PS4, "How's your night?"
Shori shrugs his shoulders and does not give any solid answers. From his face, Kitayama knows that something is not right. He pauses his game and walks toward his kouhai's room. He sits at the corner of his bed.
"Why...."
Before Shori can speak any further, a pair of hands cover his body.
"I never had siblings as I’m an only child so.... this is least I can do for you. I hope this will make you feel better."
Shori feels a longing to the warmth of the hands that is covering him now.
If only you could remember the moment 6 years ago in a hospital where you did the same to me like this. When we separated, I hoped that I could meet you again. And I’m glad that God is fulfilling my wish.
Without realizing it, they fall asleep in that position.

Kitayama is sipping his milk while staring blankly at the side of the table. Shori has excused himself to go out earlier to do a project with his friend. Last night, he has accompanied Shori to sleep. He knows that something has happen during his kouhai's date without the younger explaining anything.
“Why is so familiar to me? His body scent... It seems that I have known him from somewhere..."
He has an urge that he needs to know it soon and so he investigates.
He enters his kouhai’s room. He has entered this room twice but he has not found anything special. He opens a drawer beside the bed this time and takes the photos out from the drawer. The pictures are mainly of Shori's family but the last photo struck him. He finds a photo of himself standing beside Shori. From the clothes that Shori was wearing, Kitayama can conclude they were in a hospital.
"So we have really met before!!"
As he looks at the picture, pieces of memories from 6 years ago came back to his mind. He remembers waiting for his mom to come out of a minor operation. While waiting in the hallway, he remembers finding a skinny boy near him sobbing. From his wet eyes, Kitayama concluded that the boy had just cried.

6 years ago...
“Hei. Why are you crying?”
“I am going to be operated on today. I am scared.”
Feeling sorry for the scared child, Kitayama patted the head of the boy.
“Boys should not cry. We must be strong.”
“I tried but I can't,” The boy started sobbing.
“Listen, if I accompany you while you are being operated, will you feel comfortable enough?"
The boy nodded slowly.
"Okay. I will accompany you. Don't cry again, okay? If you feel sad or scared just remember I will always be here for you."
After the successful operation, Kitayama saw the younger boy again.
“Will we ever meet again?” Kitayama asked.
“I'm afraid not. After this, I will follow my dad to another country." The boy sulked while saying that.
“If that’s so, let's make a memory for both of us.” Kitayama brought his dad's camera and asked a nurse to take a picture of him and Shori together. After the picture was taken, he gave it to Shori.
“What about you?”
“I will always remember you.”
“Always?”
"Always.”

Present
Kitayama closes his mouth.
So... I broke the promise I made with Shori? The promise that I will remember him?
"It's been a long time, senpai." The sentence from younger startles Kitayama.
"I....am so sorry, Shori. I broke my promise."
"When my parents were getting a divorce, or in any other bad moment, I’ll always remember you. Knowing that we are under the same star makes me feel better because. I know that you are not far away." Shori smiles as he walks toward his senpai.
"Forgive me?"
"I already have. From the moment you came to this dorm and asked for my name."
Kitayama chuckled, caressing younger's hair, "So... nice to meet you again, then."

One year later.
Kitayama graduates and he gets an offer to study aboard. Shori accompanies his senpai to the airport.
"I can’t believe you are gone this fast," Shori shakes his head as he bids Kitayama goodbye.
"Me too. I hope that we can meet again soon. But fate seems to say something different."
"....."
"Hey."
"What?"
"You know the question you asked me when we first met in the dorm?"
"Yes. Why?"
"I’m not taking accounting. I’ll be majoring in art, specifically in music and dance. That's what I desire the most and that's what I chose. Like how I chose you." Kitayama takes out a small package from his pocket containing a bracelet. He puts the present in Shori's hand.
"Cheesy." Shori pouts his lips.
"But you like it, right?"
"What made you change your mind?"
"Seeing you is like seeing a breeze. You are like a muse to me. Just because of that, I’m very thankful to have you around."
Shori tip toes and gives Kitayama a peck on his lips.
"If you are having a hard time, just remember that I’ll always be around."

7 years later.
Kitayama accepts a well paying job in a big art company in Australia. His new co-workers from a different department will join him today. Curious, he looks into the meeting room where the new employees gather and is surprised to see Shori there.
After the meeting has ended, he does not waste a second of his time.. He walks ahead of Shori and asks, "Why are you here?"
"Working here." Shori smiles.
"............."
"Like I said, I’ll always find a way to be with you."
Kitayama feels relieved because he has reunited with this part of him from 13 years ago. Since that day, they never separated again. Ever.
