I have a surprise for you. About when do you think you'll get home?
Tamamori doesn't see the text until a few hours after Miyata's sent it. He looks at his watch. He'll be lucky if he's home by midnight. He sends his reply, not bothering to ask what the surprise is. Miyata would probably just tell him if he asked, but it's Tanabata. He's pretty sure he knows what Miyata has planned.
His phone is buzzing again seconds later and he has to bite back a smile.
Okay! I'll be waiting. 公
Break over, he sets his phone aside.
.oO@Oo.
It's closer to being 1 a.m. than midnight when Tamamori finally trudges through the front door and yet, he's not at all surprised upon finding Miyata sitting in the dinigh room with his mother.
"Tadaima..."
"Okaeri, Tama-chan!" Miyata says cheerfully and even in his exhausted state, Tamamori can't help but smile back.
"Miyata-kun helped make dinner tonight," Tamamori0san says, removing the saran wrap fromthe dishes on the table. "The rest of us already ate, but he insisted that he wanted to wait for you."
Tamamori stares at the star-shaped foods. "And you're sure it's safe to eat this?"
.oO@Oo.
His mother scolds him, telling him that he should be grateful that Miyata likes him enough to even try cooking him anything, then gets up not long after, announcing that it's time for bed.
"Don't stay up too late," she says, stiffling a yawn.
Poking around at the slices of okra and somen noodles in his soup, Tamamori picks up a star-shaped piece of fu. He looks at Miyata suspiciously. "Food's good. Did you really help?"
"Well... not so much," Miyata admits. "I started to cut things but in the end, I think I was just keeping your mom company."
.oO@Oo.
"Thanks for dinner," Tamamori murmurs on their way to his room. "And for waiting for me before eating... although you being here when I got home wasn't a very good surprise, if one at all."
He opens the door to his room and stops with a gasp. Miyata grins next to him. "That wasn't the surprise. This is."
He nudges Tamamori into the room so that they're not standing in the hallway anymore. The ceiling is covered with glow-in-the-dark stars in the formation of the Milky Way.
"Oh, Toshiya," Tamamori breathes and Miyata's smile widens.
"You like?"
.oO@Oo.
Near the open window, there's a small branch of bamboo leaves and Tamamori smiles as he thinks about his Tanabata wish. He sits on the bed and happily lets Miyata do everything.
Miyata must have known this would happen too, because he just hums along with everything Tamamori says.
Wishes all written out, Tamamori sighs blissfully the moment his head hits the pillow. It's hot, but to be honest, he's too exhausted to care. Already passing out of consciousness, he asks, "Did you tie our wishes up?"
"Yes, now go to sleep. I'll still be here when you wake up."
