warning: late night fan-girl ramblings, do not expect wonderful grammar or spelling

Ok I know I'm lightyears behind the majority of my f-list here  but I've just watched season one of new-who over the course of two days and I have a feeling seasons 2-4 are going to follow shortly.

(Yes, it was incredibly smart of me to dive into another fandom now ( Read more... )

I saw so few eps of season one I must get around to buying the DVDs some time. Same with 2-4, though I'd happily despatch Catherine Tate off to some particularly nasty parallel universe for the duration of eternity. And you do realise that John Barrowman is the offspring of Tom Cruise and a hamster, don't you? But Captain Jack and Ianto Jones? Mmmmmm with a capital M.

Now you can go re-read my 'Cloud Nine' with renewed perviness!

Not a Donna fan I take it? :) I'm not a huge Catherine Tate fan but I really loved Donna's character, Martha however annoyed the hell out of me for the three episodes of season 3 I've actually seen (no prizes for guessing which three episodes) although everyone tells me she's actually pretty great in the rest of the season. :)

you know that thought did occur to me *G*

If Donna hadn't spent the whole series yelling or with her gob flopping open I might have liked her better. A bag over her head and a gag would have been good. *g*

In a way I think I preferred CE's darker Doctor though I don't think either he or the writers could have kept up that standard for more than the one series they did. DT got rather annoying in the end, especially that quirked eyebrow of his, but I think he'll be the definitive Doctor for some time to come and I did enjoy his take on it all very much.

BTW, my best mate - a good filthy-minded Mancunian girl! - went out with CE years and years ago and says that he was more than a bit weird then so goodness only knows what he's like now! I did not, I hasten to add, base any of 'Could Nine' on anything she has told me! Ehem.

Bwah-hah-hah! *rubs hands together* Another one falls! I had no idea you weren't into Nu-Who.

Gah, been so long since I've seen series one that I don't remember anything particularly horrid or fantastic about The Kiss. Guess I should go eyeball it again.

CE reccies: Jude, the 2001 TV Othello, the first series of the UK Cracker, Heros, and Shallow Grave. Don't bother with (IMHO): The Seeker (The Dark is Rising), A Price Above Rubies, or New Orleans, Mon Amour. YMMV, of course.

I watched some Nu-Who but the most I'd seen of it was a few episodes of season four that aired before exams started last year and the master episodes from season three. (I hadn't really had a chance to watch alot at once until now)

I'd meant to go buy season four and work my way backwards but one of my friends told me I should start in order and leant me his dvds :)

Also thanks for the CE recs! I really need to dig up Othello and I've just you-tubed a clip for Jude and it looks brilliant :D

I don't think the kiss was meant to be anything romantic between him and the doctor. It was just Jack taking his last chance to do what he'd probably wanted to do since he first met him and say goodbye. I think whether it works or not depends on what you think it's supposed to signify.

not jack and the docor, the kiss between rose and the doctor... the one that supposedly saved her life and sucked the time vortex out of her. I don't know I think it was the "maybe you need a doctor" leadup that did it to me. I had no issue with jack kissing the doctor.

Ah, I started in the opposite order, with Torchwood, had to see Captn Jack's origins, started with season 1 then the last three of season 3 and got completely hooked by John Simm! Lol!

Torchwood is good! It really is worth watching for, if nothing more than Jack and his omnisexual ways. Kiss, Kiss Bang Bang (2.01) and Captain Jack Harkness (1.12) were favorites of mine if you want any recs. :)

But new Who is worth it and I did enjoy Christopher Eccelston's version. He plays a rather dark and harsh Doctor imo and I do like DT's Doctor more. I know what you mean about the Rose/Doctor kiss though. Rose ends up treating it as something more and I ended up having issues with her mooning over the Doctor (ducks any flying objects).

hehe you sound exactly like my friend. She can't stand Rose past season 1.
And you're right about CE playing a darker Doctor. He's a bit more catty and slightly more haunted than DT's version. Although I love DT I think I prefer CE (give me three more seasons to get through and I'll give you a definitive answer lol)

Once I finish with DW I'll be back to ask for the Torchwood Requests ;)

He is fantastic, isn't he? He was my first, and although he isn't who I consider "my" Doctor anymore, (that honour goes to Three) I still adore him. I do prefer him to Ten though, because he is a lot darker and Ten can be so sanctimonius at times. Not that I don't adore Tennant, mind you, I just prefer him as an actor to the character of Ten

I completely agree about the Doctor/Rose kiss by the way, particulalrly in light in the dramatic difference between S1 and S2 Rose. The former was someone who wanted to see the stars and happened to enjoy the company with who she was seeing them, and yet after that kiss she became a simpering, jealous bint, and only she could be the Doctor's one twu wuv *cannot stand >S2 Rose*

Aw great... I like Rose at the moment dammit.

I have a good idea of where you're coming from though. One of my friends has this pathological hatred of Rose for pretty much the exact same reason you mentioned right there. I'm guessing I'll be joining the bandwagon within a few episodes lol.(And is it bad that whenever I see the words twu wuv my mind jumps striaght to The Princess Bride).

I love Tennant but I think the sort of snarkiness (to giant puppy adorable-ness) that CE brought to Nine just made me prefer him slightly more. It's a shame he didn't get more than one season *pouts*

(I love your icon btw... when uni stops being such an arse I'm going to have to get cracking on the s1 icon love ^_^)

You might not hate Rose, she's one of the characters that you either love or you hate and you might end up in the love camp (really, it seems as though, IMHO, a lot of it depends on whether you're a Ten/Rose shipper or not). But, as far as nu Who companions go, Donna Noble PWNS all.

And while I prefer Nine to Ten, without Ten you wouldn't have Simm!Master, and who would want that? ;P I just wish Nine could have lasted a bit longer.

As for the icon, I had to have one of that scene (and it may or may not have something to do with the fact that when Nine says "come with me," I always reply "yes please." *facepalm*) It was made by neversleeps if you're interested.

Urgh, don't remind me of Uni - does it ever stop being an arse?

well I'm two episodes in and so far she's not too horrible just yet... we'll see lol

I have nothing against Ten, he's brilliant too and he did bring the Simm!Master so that is definitely in his favour. Speaking of Ten(nant) I'm currently enjoying his scottish accent *G*

And Donna Noble is awesome (it goes without saying).
