I am only writing this so people know I am still around! I started a post the other night and it sounded awful, so deleted it. And tonight I am in a really grumpy mood, so won't write much now either. I am cooking a squash to make my famous squash cassarole for tomorrow night's potluck quilting Christmas party. This meeting is when we do secret ( Read more... )

Oh Jean, you poor thing with your secret pal dilemma. Is that the same as Secret Santa? It can get very confusing when some ladies don't want to agree or change their ways or be open-minded about it. I see why you feel grumpy. I would too.

Hope it will all go well tomorrow night. Enjoy the party! A potluck quilting Christmas party sounds like fun!

Also, enjoy that new red van!
(((Hugs)))

The secret pal thing is sort of like a secret santa. We used to do it all during the year, for birthdays and whenever, but it got out of hand with too many gifts and too much expense etc..and many of the women are in the working stage of life and can't even come to many of our meetings, etc., so we have been trying to find a happy middle of the road for everyone. This year we decided to only do gifts at the Christmas party, but now my secret pal is gone on a trip, so won't even be there. It's not much fun to have a gift for a party and the person isn't there! I think it is time to do something totally different, and maybe I can convince them tomorrow. Usually we do have a wonderful time at our Christmas party, which is why some of them don't want to change. They think we won't have any fun any more with new rules. Not so! It's people who count, not gifts! I will enjoy and tomorrow will not be so grumpy! Thanks for listening!

ooo a red van???

I don't think I've seen a red Sienna yet!

At our bunco group, anyone who comes to the Christmas bunco brings a wrapped gift under $15. We play bunco..then the booby prize winner chooses a gift first and unwraps it. Then we go in order of bunco scores up to the girl who won the game. The hitch is, when it's your turn, you can either choose an unwrapped gift, or 'steal' a gift that's already been exposed. If you steal, then that girl has to either choose a new one or steal one. You're only allowed to steal the same present 3 times during the evening. It's a noisy blast.

I think the game like you play at bunco would be perfect. They play it up here too and I've done it at a different gathering. I'm going to suggest it tomorrow for next year. Toyota had a big incentive a few weeks ago to get rid of their 2006 vehicles and it was a big success apparently because the lots here didn't have much selection left. We got in on the last of it all. They did have vans but more expensive than we wanted to go. They are getting the red one from another dealership nearby. I think it was one of the few left of a kind we wanted. although after doing negotiating, I didn't even care what color! Just get me out of there! We aren't particular about color, except that the color of yours, that nice tan/gold color would have been less likely to show the dirt from our dirt road! But I've always wanted a red car and never had one before, so I guess I do now!! Dirt will look just fine on it. The silver van we have now is a popular color and I have tried many times to get in the wrong vehicle. Maybe with a red one ( ... )

For entirely different reasons I´m grumpy and not so nice myself and for what it´s worth, writing here alleviates tension and anxiety andI´m glad you did that.

I am already looking forward to being a passenger in your new shiny red van and to eating at your wonderful new table...oak is my very favorite wood!

Stick to your guns and keep your cool at your potluck and just enjoy the company and food...I´ll be waiting to hear all about it.
:)

We have two broken cars now...the green one decided it didn´t want to start this morning and Manolo can´t get it going so right now the tow truck pulled up and he´s going to the garage. He´ll call me to pick him up in a bit so I´d better get ready. You read about the other older car getting smashed last week? Manolo wired up the broken bumper and got the headlights working so Vicki had a car to drive to work. Our newest car got scraped really badly last week...another insurance claim. So...yeah. I understand grumpy. And I haven´t even thought about Christmas or done cards yet. Ugh.

Donna and Jean....two grumps!!! for very good reasons, but you reasons are beter than mine. Yes, I did read about your older car getting smashed. And your newest one getting scrapped...yuck!! My squash dish is fixed and ready for the oven for tonight. I take that to the potluck EVERY year. It's about the only time I make in any more, even though it is delicious. It doesn't seem like time for a Christmas party though, for some reason. I don't feel ChristmasY!

How nice that you will buy a Toyota :-)
As I told you my husband has a Toyota corolla.

I can't understand this:
What is secret pal ?

Toyotas have a very good rating for safety and resale and for being well buuilt. This is the first one we have owned. I am sure we will love it.

A secret pal is this: it's a secret friend that you do nice things for during the year or as we do now, just at Christmas. We all write our names on paper, put the names in a basket, and then take turns drawing out names, (being sure to not get your own name!). We don't tell whose name we have drawn....it's a secret. Tonight the secret pal will find out who has had their name when we give them a present. Everyone laughs and jokes about it at the giving time, and most of the time it is a complete surprise as to which person was your "pal". Sometimes you can almost guess who your secret pal was during the year, but you are never sure until Christmas time when we tell. We make present for them or buy them gifts. I am giving my secret pal a pair of cute socks, a package of pretty fabrics, and a cutting mat for sewing.
