Donna asked for pictures of the fabric bowls I made to send to Africa.
Nothing fancy, just fabric bowls. They are reversible and very easy to make.

They´re BEAUTIFUL, Jean! I can´t pick a favorite although I like the orange flowered one and the green is unusual. Do they have frames? How do they stay rigid?

Thanks for showing me the bowls...I feel a little closer to what you´re doing when I can see pictures.

The bowls are made with a stiff interfacing kind of stuff. It has adhesive on it. You just iron the fabric onto the interfacing, it sticks and makes a stiff layer which holds it's shape when formed. There are darts in the sides of the pattern that are sewed with a zig-zag stitch to shape the bowls. You can see the zig-zag thread stitches on the lighter blue one in the left corner.

Oh how beautiful! I love those... especially the green one and the black and red one...
However do you make them?

I use a special heavy interfacing material that is sold for making the bowls. You can also use any kind of stiff bonding kind of craft stuff. Either of these are bonded to fabric, darts are made and then stitched together with a very close zig-zag stitch to form the bowl. A friend showed me how to do it, but there are also books on it and patterns on the internet. It takes just a bit of foolin' and a little time, but is not hard to do at all.

Thanks! Apparently at my friend's bazaar in Africa last year, they were popular, so I made some more to send her for this year's sale.

These bowls have been around for several years now in some sewing stores. They are quite easy to make. There's more time than difficulty involved. You usually knit, don't you? You don't do sewing so much??

No, I never got into sewing, much to my mother's disappointment (just another item on the list!). I think it's the cutting-out process that put me off ... I used to hate it :/

I've done some felted bowls that you might like ... I can send you pics, at least from the pattern books. They're pretty quick & easy, mindless knitting :)

I would love to see pics of the felted bowls. I've never seen any of those and I'm thinking they would be very neat.
