Here's the scavenger hunt poem I wrote for her this morning (we have a tradition where the kids have "cake for breakfast" on their birthday, and I usually write out clues leading them to the cake)

1) Happy Birthday Mali
You’re 8 years old!
It’s time for your treasure hunt
to unfold...
Count down 13 steps
And in front of you
Go straight to the door

Thanks! The cake was not much to look at, but the kids scarfed it down. The "fancy" cake's getting assembled for her party on Sunday.

Would you believe the cake she got on her actual birthday was two round layers of cake I made a YEAR ago for her birthday - I'd expected to use them for her movie cake, but didn't wind up needing them, so I double-wrapped them and put them to the freezer. A year later, the night before her birthday, I pulled out the 2 frozen rounds, slapped on some homemade buttercream frosting, put a cookie cutter in the middle of the cake and put pink nerds inside the cookie cutter, and purple nerds outside the cookie cutter, and I slapped some sweet tarts around the side, and she loved it! It was very, very, homemade looking, but tasted surprisingly good! I'll see if I can put up a pic after the weekend.
