My TV Viewing

Jun 20, 2011 22:50

So, 2 television shows I've been watching have drawn to a close, and 1 television show I've been waiting for has made its debut.

I'll put my comments about all 2 under a cut for anyone who doesn't wish to be spoiled for something or other.

FALLING SKIES )

Yes, it was.

Or, ya know, maybe its just not my cup of tea, and I'm not deep or enlightened enough to get its brilliance...

But I don't think so ;)

A Woman's Hand... chatchien June 21 2011, 03:53:35 UTC
I had never read the books for A Game of Thrones, in fact, I had never ever heard of the series, and at first I confused it with that Robert Jordan series that everyone seems so fond of. But this is one Good Very Good Trash TV Show, I am so glad that I followed the hype and decided to follow the show.

And I haven't seen a show since the Sarah Connor Chronicles that has had such strong and powerful and vivid and individual women characters in it. Every time that I think some woman character is going to be just a sideshow for the male character with whom she is interacting, this show surprises me and shows me that she is something more. I am thinking of Tyrion's Whore who is more than a whore. I would like to know her back story and just what she is doing in the Lannister camp. I'll bet that she is a Spy for someone or another or for her own family who is seeking revenge on the Lannisters or whomever. After that story about Tyrion's first whore, I am very interested in this one ( ... )

I agree with you that the women play such strong roles in G0T, but so do the men. And I think thats what I really like. There's a real equality there. A great balance. Another thing I really like is that there are so many interesting things going on at the same time. So, when the show breaks away from a character you really like, say Tyrion, you aren't dreading it, because chances are that you'll be spending some time with someone else that can hold your interest. Male, or female.

And thats an accomplishment. You don't get a sense of A story, B story, etc. They are all the A stories, really.

My guess is that Sansa will find a way to cope. I don't necessarily see her becoming proactive though. I hope I'm wrong about that, because I'd love to see her get her steel backbone on.

I'm so glad that there isn't going to be an overly long break between seasons. Yay HBO!

I really thought if I stuck with The Killing, I'd get some pay off in the season finale. Well, jokes on me. F up Show!

I've only watched Game of Thrones. gildinwen June 21 2011, 04:24:27 UTC
Sansa really showed what a Stark/Tully she is. Because though she's more her mother's daughter she is her father's too. And we saw it. And Joffrey saw it. I wouldn't be too comfortable from now on if I was him. What I love about her going to push Joffrey off the platform is that she didn't care if she went too, and that last look at her father's head said so much ( ... )

I do think Sansa has more steel then we've seen previously, but I think its yet to be proven how much. Still, I liked her a lot in that moment when it was obvious that homicide/suicide was on her mind ( ... )

How did I miss that you were watching Game of Thrones! I've been dying to squee fannishly about it!

does anyone need to see some old man that they don't really care about provide some exposition on past kings with the oft naked prostitute Roz washed herself? No, no one needs to see this. And besides, the exposition didn't really offer anything new, or move the episode forward. But it took forever.I loved that scene, but only after it was over. Because as I watched it, I was right there with Roz, rolling my eyes and waiting for the fool to stop rambling on. And then after she left and he got up, stood up straight, and did his little stretches, and purposefully adopted the weakened, bent-over posture before he walked out the door - it goes back to the eunuch telling Ned that everyone at court is playing a role. I assume that this counsellor, whose name I never bothered to remember, is far sharper and stronger than anyone thinks, and he's letting his age allow people to underestimate him - you're safer in this court if you're ( ... )

Just adding a drive-by YES, YES, YES! to everything you guys are saying about GoT.

Tyrion is an amazing character and masterfully portrayed.
I think I love Arya as just as much though. She's just such a great character. I hadn't caught that she was with the King's bastard son. Interesting...

Reminding myself that Sansa is 13, and has always been raised as "the pretty one" is what kept me from despising her. But I also have a lot of sympathy for her situation now.

Joffrey - No words for what a despicable little shit he is, as he was raised to be. Nice job by that young actor.

How odd is this? The pillow that Daenerys used on Drogo was the EXACT SAME one I was laying on while watching the episode. I guess Daenerys shops at Nordstrom rack too. ;)

I could go on and on. So much depth to so many characters. The crazy sister still nursing the crazier son... GAH!

And yes, DRAGONS! Made me squee myself silly.

Falling Skies - Agreed. Not perfect, but I'm sucked in enough to give it a spot in the DVR rotation.

The only reason I want to watch "The Killing" is because I remember seeing critics rave about it and now suddenly they're saying, "Kill it before it becomes like "Lost"". I have to see the show that has fallen out of favor so quickly.

GAME OF THRONES What a freaking kick ass series.

Astounding. For me the best hands down cable series I've watched in a good while.

It was good to be able to see Bran again, because the child actor playing him has a real deep and haunting quality about him. And I find Osha, the wilding woman, to be rather entertaining.

Osha and Bran are another great combo for me like Tyrion and the guy he's traveling with.

The kids are really incredible. It broke my heart to see all of their reactions to Ned's death.

I feel so bad for Sansa, and she hasn't been my favorite Stark child up till now. But she's now caught in an awful place, with no allies in sight. But could it be The Hound has developed a soft spot for her? I think so. I think so too. I somewhat thinks he knew what she was planning on doing ( ... )

I think those in charge of The Killing overestimated just how compelling a show they were, and overestimated just how annoyed people would be at no payoff. Like I said before, if the show had been more interesting and exciting as it went along, I don't think you'd see so many upset people. But as it is, I suspect there were a lot of people like me who convinced ourselves that it was worth sitting through to find out who killed Rosie in the season finale ( ... )

I'm still a little mad at Ned for bringing his daughters along, and not recognizing the danger to them sooner. Because look where he's left Sansa and Arya now.

In all fairness he did try to get them out...I know in the books it's Sansa who spills the beans and that's why everything goes to hell. Perhaps they didn't want to reveal it here but it would make her seem too unsympathetic? But he did try. But by then it was too late....
