Natasha Trethewey Named Poet Laureate

I’m happy that Natasha Trethewey was named poet laureate this week, and have heard she may move from Georgia, where she’s been teaching at Emory University, to Washington, D.C., which would make her the first in this position to do so.

Since I had not heard about Trethewey until the announcement, I am in the delicious phase of discovering this poet, Jeannine. There are some wonderful interviews of her on YouTube (one with Rita Dove) where she talks about the writing process and all the experiences that inform her writing. Just sublime!

Thanks for sharing your discoveries so amazingly, Tara! I look forward to looking up that interview with Rita Dove, another poet who I love partly for her love of family and political history.
