I had the pleasure of hearing picture book author and illustrator Pat Cummings speak at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art on Saturday. Thanks for sharing this, Jeannine! How wonderful that Pat Cummings looks at where artists begin. We're living through a ballerina/fairy/Princess/Aztec and glitter obsession right now. :)

I'm happy I've gotten to see some princess ballerinas; Pat apparently started selling hers for a nickel or dime. I won't breathe a word to your artist. She mentioned a child saying after a school visit that being an artist looked too hard; that's when she made this deliberate effort to make sure that children knew that artists started just where they did, that it's all a process.
