so, today i was called an orientalist who is unable to look at asian art from a non-western point of view by another art history grad student. whatEVER. i'm allowed to not like some anime and anime characters. i mean, i like some anime but i'm just not obsessed with it anymore and i don't think it's japan's highest art form ( Read more... )

Dude, the only reason you don't like the moustache is that you're a smoothist who's unable to comprehend moustaches from the male point of view! Jerk!

Joel must be really confident about getting the job if he was willing to shave off his 'stache.

also, grad school sucks but it's still so much better than having a job.

it was pretty awkward. i feel like i've lost most of my confidence and ego this first year of school. i know i don't know a lot of stuff but i never realized until this year how dumb i am. :p

yeah, well, you're building up for what your specialty is. give it time and try not to let your confidence get too eroded. i felt the same way my first year until i realized that everyone is covering up for their own fears by trying to assert evidence of their own intelligence at every opportunity. it's all a show-off game for professors and peers and it's pretty easy to see through. with time and patience and commitment you can be the one who sets herself apart without being a douchenozzle.
