i feel like the only time i get any writing done is when im on a deadline, ie; writing for an exchange. which probably says tons about my motivation and creativity
I've realised that I write a lot in past tense although the fic itself is in present tense. Does this bother you as a reader? Is there anyway to improve?
Tense-switching is one of those things that's annoyingly more obvious when you're reading than writing. In general, write in the tense you prefer when you can, because you might have a habit of writing in it naturally when you're not focused. and always read through your story when you're done.
The only time I really notice tense when I'm reading is if it changes, so no. I think most of us use present tense in fandom, but I grew up reading novels that were in past tense. Either tense is fine for me, just keep it consistent in a fic.
