Question to the community about character Dab

Can somebody tell me about this guy who has popped up a couple of times so far in the Fate of the Jedi series? His name is Dab (I'm sorry, a name that ridiculous makes it hard to take the character seriously) and I assume he has been in other stories since the other characters seem to know him but I just can't remember much about that older

If I remember correctly, Han and Leia have always been kind to Dab, at least in recent years. I don't remember too much about the original story involving him either. Tahiri has also been kind to him though it greatly upsets her to see him which is why I've wondered if he doesn't do it on purpose. I wouldn't want to look like a dead person either. He's been used so far in the Fate of the Jedi novels to watch Tahiri and I think also to keep her unsettled as when he appeared in the courtroom.

Dab Hantaq though he went by another name earlier. He has always liked Tahiri. I seem to remember Jaina Solo warning him off Tahiri in one of the Fate of the Jedi books and then he appeared in the last one during her trial. I think he first appeared in Star by Star and that's where his story began connecting with the others & he may have been in one or two books right after that.

I never did like this character. I thought it was unnecessary to have an Anakin Solo double right about the time he was killed off. Why not have the real thing instead of a cardboard character. And speaking of his character, so far he seems very incomplete as far as depth of character. I hope they won't include him in the rest of the FOTJ series.

To me Dab has always seemed like one of those extra characters that the writers made and then didn't know what to do with. If he had a stronger personality or he was a bad guy or something he would certainly be more interesting.

I don't know why he's still walking around with Anakin's face. shadadukal suggested maybe he couldn't afford it, after all, he is a regular working class guy. It's odd though that the Solos or Lando or somebody connected with them didn't offer to pay for his plastic surgery many years ago after it first happened. Maybe in a way, though it bothers them, they couldn't suggest doing away with Anakin's face, they can see how he would have looked had he lived. Or perhaps it was Dab who didn't want more surgery.
