I've been collecting Big Finish audio plays because eBay is my evil enabler and the internet makes it way too easy to buy things from England. I'm really enjoying them, particularly now that the weather is starting to get warmer. If my children must roust me away from my computer, it's a comfort to get a fannish fix on my iPod while the kids play ( Read more... )

They have a bad reputation? :( People need to stop hatin' on Seven.

Seriously! I get very tired of a few characters that get bad-mouthed constantly just because all the cool kids hate them. Seven, Mel, Six, Peri, Rose... It's irritating!

As for the plays, I researched rec posts before I invested in my first CD. I can't count the times I heard variations of "I don't like Seven's plays at all, but THIS one is an exception!" Othr than Night Thoughts which everyone seems to like (and deservedly so!), the exceptions were all different... leading me to think that he often isn't given a fair chance.

And I haven't heard Master yet. My luck with .rar files is very spotty, and I only managed to snag the second part of four for that one. I've been meaning to go back and try again, but if you'd be willing to send me a copy, that would be a MUCH better solution. Thank you! *bounces excitedly*

Ahem...this post does not exist...you never heard this...

If you download uTorrent, and search for Big Finish using the search function, you will find a massive torrent full of BF audios, and you can just pick and choose which ones to download, without having to re-search for a particular audio. You just keep the torrent on the downloader and come back to it whenever you want to listen to something new. It's missing some of the more recent ones, but I'm hoping it'll be updated at some point.

I have a good idea of where to get plays that I shouldn't have, but I'm also buying some of them.

So you haven't heard "Nocturne"? Ace calls Seven on his bullshit and he vows to mend his ways. (It's a lot like Five and Tegan, except Ace has no intention of going anywhere.) And there's the obligatory Ace-gets-hurt scene that seems to happen in every BFA, and once again, Seven gets upset and overprotective. (I'm amused that he never seems to give a shit when Hex gets hurt, but he becomes a total mother-hen when it's Ace. That's enough for me to forgive the Big Finish their seemingly insatiable desire to hurt Ace.)

Sadly true. I stay up late at night listening to stolen audio plays agonizing about it. *snicker*

I've not listened to Dreamtime, and I probably won't, lol.

I listened to Colditz and it was awful. I listened to The Settling, and other than the 2 second 'OMG is Ace dead?' bit of Seven!Angst I found it a bit meh. I just don't like hex to be honest, same as I don't like Benny. The Seven'n'Ace dynamic changes when there's someone else in the TARDIS, and I guess I just like my 2 fave characters unadulterated, lol.

It's a real shame to me that the Seven'n'Ace audios have gone completely downhill after Dust Breeding :( It's like the writers are writing out of a sense of obligation rather than any real love. Notice how few audios Seven has compared to the other Doctors. It's a conspiracy I tells ya :p

I do enjoy the Seven and Mel audios though. Mel is much better on audio for starters, and the writers like to have a lot of 'post regeneration madness' going on with Seven, which is tons of fun.

I liked "Colditz," but possibly only because it was the first audio play I heard. The creepy will-Ace-be-raped-or-won't-she plotline was definitely off-putting, but I did like that it was just the two of them there. I haven't heard "Dust Breeding" yet, but I just won it on eBay this afternoon so I should be hearing it before the end of the week.

I actually like the changes. Hex is drawn as a kid, but a kid who's learning from Ace in the same way she learned from the Doctor. With Hex as a baseline, it's much clearer that Ace is now an adult and the Doctor's equal. Maybe I'm looking at this with mad 'shipper lenses, but Hex strikes me as fertilizer, helping the relationship between the Doctor and Ace to grow.

...

Did I just call Hex shit? I didn't mean to do that; I like Hex. Is there a good, sweet-smelling, completely adorable shit? 'Cause that's totally what Hex is.

I do enjoy the ( ... )

That is incredibly cool! I see most of them are from early first season and there were some dud episodes then, but also some of the better ones as well. (And free is always good ( ... )

Oh, I love pilot eps! I will start there.

Funny, I found a pic the other day from Diagnosis murder that was Robert Culp, Robert Vaughn, Patrick McNee and Dick VanDyke. Too awesome.

Thanks much for the recs!

You probably wouldn't know it was the pilot episode if I didn't tell you. (In fact, it wasn't supposed to be. RC wrote this without permission from the producer, intending to submit it for a mid-season episode. When Culp got the script for the pilot episode, he thought it was complete crap and certain to destroy his career. Knowing that his script was much better than what he'd been given, Culp submitted this one to Sheldon Leonard, who threw a fit that RC had been writing instead of practicing his tennis like he was supposed to be doing. At this point, RC took both scripts to the head of NBC, who gave the green light to "So Long" and sent the other script out for revisions. Oddly enough, Culp and Sheldon Leonard never got along after that...) You're thrown in the deep end, with the two of them already having more backstory than we'll ever know. Still, this was the episode that set the tone of the show.
