Toothless Cuteness -vs- Evil Cuteness

Jacob is almost eight years old but before last night, he had never lost a tooth. He's had loose teeth, but he would never wiggle them because it interfered with his thumb-sucking. (And yes, I know eight is six years too long to stop sucking his thumb, but he really seems to need that stimulation to get through his day. His classmates are ( Read more... )

Tell Sarah from me that that's no way for a princess to behave. Shame on her! We princesses have to live up to our name and learn to comport ourselves properly.

Yay for the Tooth Fairy being understanding about mean sisters who do stupid things out of jealousy!

She's a rather imperious princess, I'm afraid. She normally gets her way and thus isn't usally prone to naughty actions (because she doesn't have to). This is an aberration, but I'll pass along your advice anyway.

And hurray for the Tooth Fairy indeed! I felt so badly for him when I realized that he'd just assumed that the Tooth Fairy wouldn't want to have anything to do with him. He just accepted it, which struck me as sad. On the other hand, I think he was much happier with his dollar because he'd thought he wouldn't get one.

On guard against the Tooth Fairy? *laughing hard* That is one of the cutest things I've ever heard! Good for Jessie, forming her own opinion about fairies!

I sucked my thumb until I was *mumblemumble* years old. Both my baby teeth and adult teeth are fine, so I'm not sure I believe all the bad press about thumb-sucking. I think it's a pretty benign habit, and if it helps Jacob get through his day, then yay!

I think my parents eventually bribed me out of it by offering me a new bike if I stopped for three months or something. Maybe you could offer him a box of gold coins when the time comes. :-)

My daughter is 6 and still sucks her thumb. I had a talk with her about it when break started and pointed out that she's hurting her teeth by changing the shape of her jawbone and that she's going to have to have braces (which suck). We then decided that she would make a plan and deal with it herself.

I had unidentified (cuz, well, I was born in 1970 and the DSM added the dx when I was 24) Asperger Syndrome and I sucked my thumb till I was 8 and in 2nd grade. I finally decided I didn't want to be made fun of (for that, in addition to everything else) and came home one day and told my mom I was stopping--and DID, just like that.
