Shoppng for new PCs

With the large influx of cabbage I'm expecting at the end of December when caroling ends, I've promised myself not to squander it and put it towards something substantial, like a new PC to take over the reins of my hard-working 5 year old Gateway POS. PCIe is defintely the way to go. However, current wisdom says it's best to wait about 6 months before upgrading, as the industry is changing over to the new standard, and many new video cards won't work with PCIe motherboards.

(There's been a lively discussion on the topic over at Net-Night, if you'd like to take a gander. You'll also find more info there about the function ofthe motherboard.)

That said, if you're getting a total Alienware system, you won't have to worry about video card compliance, since they worry about it for you.
