I'm constantly struck by how isolated it is for original fic writers. For those who haven't been published ( and their name is legion), their only feedback has often been a pile of rejection slips. In fanfic you get feedback on your own stories as well as seeing how people respond to other writers' stories. It's a valuable learning experience.
jedi_em and I were talking about this exact same thing last night. I've only ever written fanfic with all the perks and pitfalls of its built in audience. I'm fascinated by how writers who strictly write original works can stay energized on projects.
And I'm so glad you did this meme! I am blown away by your writing and my respect for you is immense and I love this glimpse inside your processes and history.

I really need to get to your other fics soon. But I will tell you for now that I'm absolutely loving The Protege.

(BTW, yeah, I think you called it on your writing style, at least what I've seen of it.)
