Computer DOA

Subject lines says it all. Not so much as a beep or anything when I hit the power button. I'm guessing the power supply crapped out on me. I'll see what I can do tomorrow with a visit to Frys ( Read more... )

Let me know if I need to venture into my garage (the great computer bone yard that it is) and pull out spare parts to improve your current system. And some day I want to see your new place! I've been stuck in Portland for quite a while now. And unfortunately likely to continue to be stuck until the latter half of August. Perhaps then...

Two options are power supply and motherboard (usually do to blown caps). My dads just died yesterday the exact same way so I'm testing it today.

The motherboard is honestly the most common. A while back they switched to sub-standard capacitors and they bulge out and eventually die...usually within 2-3 years. Only the top end motherboards have a longer life now.
