TONIGHT AT WORK

Nursing supervisor: I need a bed, but I'm not sure it's an appropriate patient for your unit. She has a fast heart rate.

Me:  Is it atrial fib?

Supervisor: I don't know.

Me: Well, if it's a-fib and needs cardioversion it's appropriate for us, but if it's just tachycardia it can go to medical ICU.

If it were a co-worker and not a supervisor, I so would have pulled that line!

I've had days like that too, but I support computers, not people. Kind of makes me worry when I hear tales of medical professionals not knowing details they should have. *cringe*

It would have been brilliant! ;)

The Super is new and still learning our ropes, but I'll never understand how/why they hire nurses for that position who aren't proficient at bedside nursing in a hospital setting. *shakes head*
