Healthy arguements are tricky. It takes a significant amount of maturity from both parties otherwise it desends into shouting and emotion. We often are only interested in dicussing things if we care about them. And if we care about them we place emotional importance on being right. But the issue is not learning to debate more rationally; I think it is immaturity not ignorance that drives current political "debate". We are all so scared that the we could be wrong about the thing we care so much about that we get angry and defensive or just plain refuse to entertain any ideas other than our own.

Of course I enjoy being agreed with, but it makes life much more interesting to have your thoughts challenged. One of the reasons I enjoy this class actually is because of the disagreements that go on when discussing some of the readings.
