That is a good point that you brought up about how the stigma people get placed upon them in Africa when they have AIDS is comparable to the stigma many people place on Africa itself for being afflicted by such a pandemic. It is very sad, but I agree with you.

To answer your question, yes, I think that the world’s response would be different and more urgent if it were another continent or country facing such a pandemic. Going back to the “Letter to America”, look at how wrapped up Canada is with the problems in America. Because we are so connected to them and rely on them, we make their problems our problems. I think many people and countries feel that the pandemic in Africa is not their problem; they are not directly affected so why should they be concerned. Again, very sad, but I think many people think this way.

I like that you did extra research about the HIV/AIDS desease to back up your thoughts and opnions. I think it gives us an even better idea whey lewis takes this so seriously and spends so much time trying to get help to Africa. I agree with you that through out the story he never disses or disrespects the arfrican country or the audience. He never points a finger at anyone or blames anyone for this happening. He simply tells us there is an issue and asks us to help. I like how you paragraphed your response into different issues the author brings up throughout the piece.
